Santa Fe New Music 2004 Youthfest

The second annual SFNM Youthfest, a free, two-day celebration of new music, young composers, and musicians took place on Saturday, June 5 at 7:00 pm at the Awakening Museum in Santa Fe, and Sunday June 6, at 5:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Albuquerque.

Youthfest 2004 included premieres of winning compositions from the New Mexico Young Composers' Project, and works of new music performed by the SFNM Youth Ensemble—the nation's only youth ensemble dedicated solely to the study and performance of new music.

The members of the 2004 Santa Fe New Music Youth Ensemble included: Austin Allen, Percussion; Christine Allen, Voice; Samantha Secular, Piano; Lauren Schneider, Flute; Morgan Howell, Double Bass; Georgia Visser, Cello; Radha Garcia, Viola; Ramon Lovato, Violin; Arthur Knause, Violin; Luke Kuzava, Clarinet; James Onstad, Piano; Signe Onstad, Piano.

The repertoire included:

John Kennedy Collective Sentiments
Larry Polansky Ensembles of Note
Mark Francis Shadows
David Rubenstein One-Note Concerto
Duane Heller Ghost Child (World Premiere)

In addition to the aforementioned performance, for varied instrumentation, SFNM Youthfest featured premiere performances, by adult musicians, of the winning compositions of the 2004 New Mexico Young Composers' Project. This is a list of the winning composers and compositions of the SFNM 2003 Young Composers' Project, chosen from submissions statewide:
